Challenge

Domestic and commercial cleaning company, Drop the Mop grew organically in their first year. Owner-director, Chris Hale, was doing all the cleaning and running the business by himself. He had plenty of reviews from happy customers, who were referring him onwards, which brought in new sales. Drop the Mop was listed on yell.com and had a Facebook page. Chris was trying lots of tactical marketing, but found it difficult to track what was working. He struggled to find time to do the research on how to progress on Google. There were very few visitors to the website, less than 100 in the first six months. Page errors were affecting the user experience for visitors; proven by an 84% bounce rate. Working 60-70 hours a week, Chris found it impossible to keep up with the website or organise more marketing to generate leads.

They are now ranking near the top for 250+ search phrases and have been ranking at #1 for office cleaning; carpet cleaning; and home/house cleaning. The bounce rate has improved from its former high of 84% - down to 31%.

Chris has upgraded their commercial vehicles and invested in new cleaning equipment. Drop the Mop has extended their services to offer on-site training for in-house commercial cleaners, when they go in to complete a commercial deep clean for a business. Chris supplies several cleaners for jobs on larger premises because the team ethic is to enjoy working together and finish the work faster.

There are six teams, fully booked usually 4-6 weeks in advance. Domestic cleaners cover the local Forest of Dean area, whereas the commercial cleaning teams travel further afield in the UK. Specialising in end-of tenancy cleans means Chris now works closely with property developers and landlords to ensure whole buildings are ready for new tenants.
